Home Server
A compact 24/7 uptime home server for doing all types of different stuff. This is personally one of the most useful things utility-wise that I've done, as I've been using this server pretty much every single day since I set it up.
Some of the things I use the home server for are:
- A massive NAS of ~44 TB with redundancy
- Remote access to home network services
- Software development
- I can run software on a linux environment
- I can run database tests using the database directly by simply connecting to the database running on my server
- Do extreme tests on virtual machines (and I can easily reset it if anything goes wrong)
The PC build used in this project was by far the most difficult one I’ve done thus far and was done with the Mini ITX Fractal Design Node 304 case. As you can probably tell, the wiring was an absolute jungle and I had to be really accurate with my hands for some of the connections.

The initial path that I took was setting up the server in TrueNAS SCALE but I wanted more flexibility and ending up going with setting up the server in Proxmox. This way, I can setup TrueNAS SCALE in one virtual machine, and create virtual machines for other use cases at will on a fully-fledged virtualization platform. I’ve looked around and seen many people advise against virtualized TrueNAS OS, but after testing and using my server for a few months, I have yet to run into any issues.
